  2. AbilityOne Program Mission Provide employment opportunities for people who are blind or have other severe disabilities in the manufacture and delivery of products and services to the federal government. AbilityOne is Smart Business

  3. Why is This Important? • Over 17 million working-age adults are blind or severely disabled • Only 38% of this population is employed • AbilityOne serves people who cannot obtain or maintain employment on their own • AbilityOne is the single largest employer of Americans who are blind or have other severe disabilities in the nation • AbilityOne helps people help themselves – jobs = independence and dignity

  5. Committee Responsibilities • Determine Which Items to Add to theProcurement List • Determine the Fair Market Price • Set Policies and Provide Guidance for the AbilityOne Program • Assist in Educating Federal Agencies about the AbilityOne Program

  6. New Executive Director Tina Ballard became Executive Director of the Committee staff on March 3, 2008. Previously Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Policy and Procurement), she brings vast leadership experience in global programs, acquisition and organizational development. Ms. Ballard will reach out to senior DOD executives and industry leaders to seek advice and commitment to help us grow jobs in the AbilityOne Program.

  7. The AbilityOne Procurement List • Official list of all AbilityOne items • Maintained by the Committee for Purchase • Identifies name and National Stock Number (NSN) or commercial name for each product • Access the list: www.abilityone.gov

Procurement List Standards • Additions meet the Committee’s Suitability Criteria • Demonstrate potential to create employment • Qualified NPA capable of meeting quality and delivery standards • No severe impact on current provider • Offered at a Fair Market Price • Deliberative Committee decision via public rulemaking process
