The Purpose of Prophecy Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed. A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that renderethrecompence to his enemies. Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child. Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God.   5. Prophet – Predicting the Future And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him. Let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, it is truth. YE ARE MY WITNESSES, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I am the Lord, and beside me there is no saviour. The Prediction – Part 1 SCATTERING About 1500 B.C., the children of Israel were repeatedly warned by Moses that failure to obey the divine commandments and ordinances would result in the nation being scattered from the Promised Land (Palestine) to a multitude of foreign countries. " If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious andfearful name, THE LORD THY GOD: then the Lord will make thy plagues wonderful ... he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt. .. and ye shall be left few in number. .. and ye shall be plucked off the land whither thou goest to possess it. And the Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from one end of the earth even unto the other. .. And among those nations thou shalt find no ease... and thy life shall hang in doubt before thee ... and thou shalt have no assurance of thy life" Deut. 28:58-66 KJV

  17. The Prediction – Part 2 RETAIN THEIR IDENTITY Despite the fact that they would be scattered throughout the countries of the world, they would RETAIN THEIR IDENTITY. " though I make a full end of all nations wither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee ... " Jer. 30:11 KJV " If those ordinances (the sun and the moon) depart from before me, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me forever" Jer. 31:36 KJV

Retain Their Identity In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims, And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.   19. The Prediction – Part 3 REGATHERING The prophets had long foretold that, in the latter days, prior to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, the Jews would return to their own land - the same land from whence they had been scattered many centuries before.

  21. Not Everyone Believed As late as 1933 some believed that the prediction of the return of the Jews to Palestine would prove an abject failure. "Suppose a gigantic miracle were to be worked - God can work miracles - and the Moslems and Christians were persuaded to depart from Palestine, would the repatriation of the Jews be a simple matter? Israel – Ye Are My Witness The Re-gathering of the Jewish People • The First Zionist Congress 1897 • Exactly 1260 years from the capture of Jerusalem in 637 A.D., a new movement among the Jews springs into existence: Zionism. • Zionism - "to procure for the Jewish people an openly recognized and legally assured home in Palestine the ancient homeland of the Jews " • The first Zionist Congress was held at Basle, Switzerland, in 1897 Dr. Theodor Herzl was the " architect " of modem Zionism.

Israel – Ye Are My Witness The Re-gathering of the Jewish People • THE BALFOUR DECLARATION 1917 • " His Majesty's Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object; it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country".

Israel – Ye Are My Witness The Re-gathering of the Jewish People • The Holocaust and World War II 1939- 1945 • During WW II the notorious Holocaust took place in which over 6 million Jews were killed. • By the end of the war in 1945, the Jewish population was greatly decimated. The beneficial outcome of the Holocaust was that many of the Jews who survived the massacre, were now not only willing, but even anxious to seek refuge in a country (Israel) of their own. • "World War I prepared the (Holy) Land for the people. World War II prepared the (Jewish) people for the land".

It is indispensable to the setting up of the Kingdom of God; for they are the kingdom, having been constituted such by the covenant of Sinai, as it is written, “Ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation” (Exodus 19:6).   34. The Purpose of Prophecy • Object of prophecy - to reveal God to men and to keep men with God. • Prophecy - given as an instrument in the preparation of a people for the Lord, and it is given primarily for the benefit of those with whom God is working out his purpose of redemption.
