  1. Multiplying a Polynomial by a Monomial Tuesday May 20

  2. Today’s Objectives: • Review homework answers • Successfully complete concept check/mini quiz • Multiply a polynomial by a monomial (classwork p. 17, homework #104 odds)

  3. Homework #103 Answers • 1. 6x + 12 y 2. 14s + 9t 3. 3a + 5b 4. 9m – 13n • 5. 2m2 + m 6. -x2 – 8x 7. d2 – 3d 8. -e2 + 2e • 9. 3f + g + 1 10. 10k2 – 3k + 9 11. x3 -4x + 2 12. -b2 – ab – 2 • 13. 4z2 – z + 9 14. -4m + 4n – 3 15. 4t2 + 2t – 2 • 16. -5g3 + 3g 17. a2 + 8a + 7 18. 4x2 – 11x + 5 19. 4z2 + 5z + 4 • 20. 3c2 – 2c + 5 21. -n2 + 9n + 4 22. 5a2 – 2b2 23. 3l2 – 4l – 1 • 24. -2m2 +8m +4 25. 6x2 – 13x + 6 26. 6b2 – 7b -11 27. 6x2 – x + 3

  4. Multiplying a Polynomial by a Monomial Example. -3x2(4x2 + 6x – 8) You can use distribution to find the product. Multiply -3x2(4x2) = -12x4 Multiply -3x2(6x) = -18x3 Multiply -3x2(-8) = 24x2 Write your answer in standard form (descending order) -12x4 – 18x3 + 24x2 *REMEMBER THE RULES OF EXPONENTS*

  5. Simplifying Example #2 Simplify -2(4x2 + 5x) – x(x2 + 6x) First do the multiplication for the first term: -2(4x2 + 5x) -8x2 – 10x Then do the multiplication for the second term: – x(x2 + 6x) -x3 – 6x2 Then combine like terms. -8x2 – 10x -x3 – 6x2 -x3– 14x2 – 10x

  6. CLASSWORK Complete page 17 in class. Ms. Cruz will have the answers so you can check your answers. When you are finished log into Carnegie. Homework will be # 104 odds only
