  5. Emotionally • New emotions • Jealousy Fear • Sadness love • Happiness affection • Anger • Self concept • Self esteem • Security

  6. Socially • Learning to play by oneself • Learning to play next to someone • Learning to play together • Making friends • Imaginary friends • Sharing with others

  7. LEARNING ABOUT CHILDREN • Improves your understanding • Lowers abuse and frustration • Learn about yourself

Learn about Children cont. • Fully appreciate all characteristics of human development • Complexity of growth • Children dependent on parents • Affection is important • Guidance and support of older people • Your powers of observation will improve • You’ll understand their behavior and what is age appropriate

  9. Application is important to learning • Can’t just read • Can’t learn everything from a book • You can learn practical techniques of caring for children • You can discover that children are fun • Children are human beings and they are a lot of work/responsibility

  10. Understanding Self • See how you have changed but yet still the same person • Education, experience life’s situations help you mature

  12. MIDDLE AGES • European adults were almost totally aware of the special needs of children: • Sunshine, -loving care • wholesome food, -protection, • variety of learning experiences • Artwork-made children little adults
