It took a lot of effort to put on this event with many tasks such as organising stalls, tickets, prizes, checking equipment, contacting people, putting out road signs and so much more. The walking parade started from the Sun Inn car park and went around the village. It was a shame that this year there were even less people dressed up or joining the parade than in previous years. We would like to say to those who did support, participate, dress up, watch or donate, a HUGE HUGE thank you. Caroline Barber from Penally judged The Shaggy Dog show, with her helpers, which was once again a big success, Thankyou Outside the BBQ was run by our Chairman David Bentall and his wife Di and their helpers. As soon as the charcoals were hot enough to cook they were making and selling burgers and hotdogs non stop all afternoon. Many of the stalls were run by our village organisations, selling anything from cakes, to teddy bears, St Florence bags, honey, books and brick o brac. We had some lots more stalls this year, some new such as a Pimms Tent, Name the Meerkat, Lollies Sweets, Jewellery, Flowers and Grandiflora plus the good old favourites such as toys, Duckola and more bric-o-brac etc. We even had some people come forward at short notice with ideas such as a Pitch & Putt, which was very popular and a buzz game, so thank you to those involved. Thank You. Moya Hart had a huge Tombola stall and was also selling goods she had been collecting from around the village for months. She did amazingly and all because people of St Florence were SO generous with the gifts they gave. Thank you!. Barry Thomas had a busy afternoon giving rides round the field with his Pony and trap and John Wolverson, representing the cricket club had a wellie throwing competition which was well supported and finally the Tug-O-War competition was fantastic fun, with The Sun Inn winning the ladies team and the Parsonage Farm Inn winning the male team. The St Florence FlyerNewsletter of the Village Association: October 2010 Halloween Sunday 31st October 2010 This year for fun, we ask you to get into the village spirit and think of making a guy fawkes to sit on your door step to greet all the happy trick or treaters. So if you are busy shopping for those well deserved Christmas pressies, please remember if you shop on-line, you could be donating money to our village school without even costing you a penny. Please take a moment of your time to look at www.easyfundraising.org.uk and look for the charity Friends of St Florence School (F.O.S.S.). Find your store or shop through this site and they will give our school monetary donations at NO EXTRA cost to you. As the school are so important to our local community, they would be so grateful if you could take two minutes of your time to look the website as any financial help is so important to the school especially with the current extension imminent. St Florence W.I. Do you enjoy? Making New Friends? Learning New Skills? Social Events? Guest Speakers? And FUN? If so the W.I. May well be for you! We meet every 2nd Monday of every month at 1.45pm at our Village Hall. Should you have any queries, please contact Lesley on 871622. St Florence Community Council We are really disappointed to announce that a few months ago the roof at our Village Hall was seriously damaged and a temporary repair had to be made immediately to stop water leaking into the building, however, the damage is extensive and a complete repair is very costly. We hope that the people involved will think seriously about what happened and will not repeat such an offence and realise that the money needed to fix such damages indirectly comes out of our pockets. St Florence Village Association We have donated two new benches along the Ritec for your pleasure and hope that they are of use. Unfortunately, already the one benches, nearer the shop end of the Ritec has been vandalised and we ask that if anyone sees these benches being mistreated or knows who is responsible for the current damage, please let the Village Association know. Also please could parents remind their children about the one way system in the village as children are still riding their bikes the wrong way, which could result in them being knocked off their bikes or even more seriously, be badly injured or even killed.
