  6. C Preparing To Read. Background Look at the picture on page 123 of a produce section of a grocery store. There are many kinds of organic and regular fruits and vegetables. Use the information in the picture to complete these sentences. Pg. 122 2- Organic apples cost $ 2.49 a pound. 3- Regular pears cost $ 0.99 a pound. 4- Organic pears cost $ 1.59 a pound. 5- Red leaf lettuce costs $ 1.12 each. 6-Green leaf lettuce costs $ 0.99 each. 7- Organic green leaf lettuce costs $ 2.98 each. 8-Organic green leaf lettuce is the most expensive lettuce.   7. Vocabulary for Comprehension Pg. 123 Ms Sherine El Deeb Read the sentences. Try to understand the underlined words without looking them up in a dictionary. 1- Orange juice really is orange. But many sodas are made with artificial colors. These colors come from chemicals. 2- Sometimes bananas are green and hard. To ripen them, put them in a paper bag. In one or two days, they should be yellow and soft. 3- Some fruits, like apples, grow on trees. Some, like blackberries, grow on bushes. And some, like grapes, grow on vines.

Pg. 124 Ms Sherine El Deeb 1- You’ll find bananas in the produce section of your supermarket or grocery store. 2- I hate insects! Mosquitoes bite me every time I go outside, and ants get into all the food in my cupboards. 3- Sometimes I have trouble growing vegetables, but I never have trouble growing weeds ! They just take over the garden. 4- Farmers use pesticides and herbicides to kill insects and weeds. 5- Cancer kills millions of people every year. 6- These tomatoes don’t look very nice, but they taste wonderful.
