  1. Jesus is God! – Study of LukePart 13-House of Prayer Luke 19:45-48

  2. Luke 19:45-48 Luke 19:45–48 45 Then He went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it, 46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” 47 And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to destroy Him, 48 and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him.

  3. Luke 19:28-41 32 So those who were sent went their way and found it just as He had said to them. 33 But as they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them, “Why are you loosing the colt?” 34 And they said, “The Lord has need of him.” 35 Then they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their own clothes on the colt, and they set Jesus on him. 36 And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road.

  4. The passage of Scripture we are studying today gives us a firsthand look at righteous and holy anger. Following the triumphal entry, Jesus enters the temple begins to clear out the business men and money changers who had turned the temple courts into a modern day strip mall. Jesus refers to the temple as being “my house” and then states that his house is to be a place of prayer, literally a place of communion with God.

  6. Is Your Temple a Place of Communionwith God? 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

  7. Is Your Temple a Place of Communionwith God? The New Testament tells us that we are the temple of the living God, the Spirit of God has taken up permanent residence in our lives. Is your temple a place where communion with God is taking place daily or does your temple resemble the chaos, confusion of carnality of the temple that Jesus cleansed?

  8. Is Your Temple a Place of God’s Purpose? Colossians 3:23 23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 1 Corinthians 10:31 31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

  9. Is Your Temple a Place of God’s Purpose? The religious leaders of the day had turned this place of communion with God into a place of business dealings. They seized this opportunity to profit off the worship of God. Rather than being about the Father’s business they were about their own business and profit forgetting and ignoring the primary purpose of the temple!

  10. Is Your Temple a Place of Daily Sacrifice? Luke 9:23 23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. Romans 12:1–2 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

  11. Is Your Temple a Place of Daily Sacrifice? Those coming to worship fell into yet another trap, namely, they were now able to turn the act of giving and sacrifice into a mere emptying of their wallets. It no longer required an investment of themselves or a giving of their own family raised animals, but it was now an impersonal, heartless ritual. Yet a further travesty was the robbery of the innocent in this situation. The court of the gentiles had been turned into a strip mall and those gentiles that came to worship their God entered into a sight more similar to an auction at Dinky’s than a place of communion with God.
