  1. Oxford Strike N' Spare Lanes Interview of the owner: Jason Snyder

  2. What does your business provide? • Oxford Strike N’ Spare Lanes provides the service of bowling. People from all over have been to the lanes to enjoy the sport of bowling. It’s a good feeling to see customers leave with a smile.

  3. What other services does your center provide? • The bowling alley also provides food and beverages to all customers. The prices are reasonable and the food is very good. (I recommend the fried dough.)

  4. Does your business sell any equipment? • Yes, we actually sell bowling balls at the center. There are hundreds of balls to choose from and the prices are reasonable as well. We even sell balls directly from our pro shop. SOLD!

  5. What else do you sell? • We sell bowling shoes as well. Along with the shoes we sell, we have a catalog with various assortments of bowling shoes in it. The shoes are at reasonable prices as well.

  6. Do you sell anything else? • We also sell bowling accessories such as easy slide, grip tape, rosin, and ball cleaner. There are many different items to choose from when you walk into our pro shop here at the center.

  7. What about bowling shirts or other apparel? • In our catalog, there are many different bowling shirts, pants, socks, or even wrist bands. There are various styles and sizes to choose from and can be delivered in about 2 weeks.

  8. Can you drill bowling balls? • Yes, and as a matter of fact all balls bought from our bowling alley get drilled for free. However, any other ball brought in will cost around $20.00 plus if you want inserts.

  9. What about the little kids? • We have a small game room for your children. The room consists of candy machines, shooting games, skill games, and even old school games like pacman and galaga.

  10. What are the prices? • The prices are very low compared to most of our competitors. During the week it is $2.75 per game and the weekend is only $4.00 per game. Shoes are rented for $2.75 all week.

  11. Is it hard to fix the lanes? • There are some problems with the lanes that require time for maintenance like a scissor breaking but most problems can be dealt with fairly quickly like the turret being jammed.

  12. What makes the ball slide on the lanes? • There is a special mixture of oil and stripper used in a lane oil machine which when applied makes the service have less friction on the ball.

  13. ESSAY Oxford Strike N’ Spare Lanes was built in 1962 by the previous owners Jack Renalli and Chet Zercher. It was equipped with 16 brand new Brunswick lanes and was reffered to as Ox Grove Lanes. The bowling alley plans on expanding the number of lanes to 24. The next plan is to build an indoor miniature golf course next door for the colder seasons.

  14. There are currently seven people employed at the center including the manager/owner. As the summer grows nearer, the number of nicer days does as well. This gives reason for potential customers to enjoy more outdoor activities rather than bowling. This will result in a decline of customers which will reduce profit. The current bowling centers in competition with the lanes are Garden Spot, Pike Creek, Elkton, and Blue Ball bowling centers.

  15. The advantages of owning a business is you get to meet new people everyday and interact with your employees. The disadvantages of owning a business are the zoning issues, taxes, the cost of living (electric, insurance, etc.), discussing price changes, and having to let employees go. The major impact of government regulation upon the bowling alley is the non-smoking bands in public places. This will be a deciding factor on whether or not the regular crowd will come in anymore due to many of them being smokers. The bowling center is not affected by taxes as much as other businesses. In the state of Pennsylvania, the price to bowl per game is not taxed. The only real tax the center deals with is payroll tax.
