  2. Unit 5 Why do you like pandas? Section A

  3. Step 1 :Play the song called “Old Macdonald had a farm”, and ask the students to listen carefully the animals in the song. Think about the questions below. 1)How many kinds of animals are there in Old Macdonald’s farm? 2) Which animals have the “moo” sound? 3) Where can we see more animals? Step 2 : Presentation of the new words. Show them the pictures of the animals, then finish activity 1a.

  4. Step 3 : Game: Animal Alphabet. After 1a, have students list the animals that they know in English. One letter, one word: Have all students stand. Ask S1 to say an animal starting with letter “a” before sitting down. Ask S2 to say an animal starting with letter “b” before sitting down. The game continues until all the students are seated. If a student cannot think of an animal, they miss a turn and remain standing.

  5. Step 4: Listening 1b. Play the recording and ask them to finish the task on their own. Check the answer together. Then play the recording again and ask them to answer these questions: What are the girl’s favorite animals? Why? Does the boy like giraffes? Why?

  6. Step 5 : Pair work. e.g. A: What kind of animals do you like? B: I like monkeys. A: Why do you like monkeys?. B: Because they’re cute. Give the students a three minutes to talk about their favorite animals and the reason they like them. Step 6: Divide the students into several groups (four or five students for each group) And talk about which animals do they want to see.

  7. Step 7: Before listening, make them clear the differences between the words, “really, kind of, very, a little, so”. Play the recording and ask them to finish the task 2a on their own, then check the answer together.

  8. Step 8: Guess who I am.

  9. Where are they from? They are from…….

  10. Step 9: Pair work. Give the students five minutes to talk about these questions with their partners. Does your family have pets? What pets? Can you describe them?(what color? Is it a boy or a girl? What’s his\her name? can he\she run fast? Is he\she interesting?)

  11. Step 10: Ask the students to read the conversation in 2d and think about these questions. Does Peter have a pet? What’s the name? What can he do? Does Jenny’s mother have a pet? What’s the name? What can she do ? Role play the conversation

  12. Step 11: Consolidation Divide the class into several groups with four students in each group. The teacher will give each group three cards with the topic of animals, description words, countries, and ask them to write down as many words as they can on the card. Ask the groups to exchange their cards and check if there are any mistakes on their cards. Find out which group is the winner, (wrote down as many correct words as they can.)and ask the group to come to the board and write down their words.

  13. 4) Chorus work. 5) Bingo game. (the teacher will read out the sentences in the grammar focus, and the students will cross the words they wrote on the bingo game table.) 6) Then ask the winner and his\her partner make their own conversation using the words in the table.

  14. Step 12: Homework. 1) Ask the students to finish the activity 3a and 3b after class. 2) Write about their favorite animals and tell the reason you like her\him.
