  2. Welcome to the tropical rainforest, I’m your tour guide Tony! You never know what you might find out here, so let’s begin our tour and see what we can find! Click the arrow below to get started.

  3. Today we are going to learn about all the layers of the rainforest and the animals that live in these layers too! Click the arrow to go on to the next page.

  5. If you ever see a word that is highlighted, click on it to find out what it means

  6. Highlighted: An area or spot that is highly illuminated.

  11. Emergent Layer • Highest level of the rainforest • Only the tallest trees reach this level, they can grow up to 200 feet tall • Since it is so high up, there is lots of sunlight for the trees • These trees do not grow closely together, they have lots of room to spread out

  16. Canopy Layer • 2nd level of the rainforest • These trees can grow from 100-150 feet tall • The canopy layer acts like an umbrella it stops sunlight and rain from reaching the lower levels • This is the most diverse layer

  21. Understory Layer • 3rd layer of the rainforest • This layer is dark and humid • There are lots of vines and vegetation at this level • There is not very much light at this level • Plants in this layer are usually under 12 feet tall

  28. Forest Floor • Bottom layer of the rainforest • This layer only gets 1-2% of the sunlight that the upper layer gets • There is very little plant life this far down • It is full of dead leaves and plants • The rainforest floor is very humid

  35. Did you know…. More than 20% of the world’s oxygen is produced in the Amazon Rainforest Rainforests only cover 6% of the earth’s surface but contain more than ½ of the world’s plant and animal species
