History • Latino Population in Hoke County 1990 Latino pop-218, total 22,856 2006 Latino pop-4,370, total 42,303 Started Summer Nutrition Program-1996 Two weeks- 20 youth - 80 youth (2007) Partnered with Migrant Educational Program Over time opened up to all Latino youth 2nd-12th grade Began to work close with Volunteer-Febe McLaughlin Migrant Recruiter, AIMS Club Developed a Latino TRY-IT Team-Nutrition,Leadership Developed Leadership Program made up of Latino Youth Developed workshops, Citizenship Focus, Congress, Club

  3. Bridging The Culture Divide Teaching Nutrition at South Central Winter-Enrichment Teaching 4-H Youth Cultural Dance Steps Latino Family Night Teaching Leadership to peers

  4. Long-range Needs • Takes time to develop partnerships • Takes time to develop relationships • Resources needed-Grants, Money, Opportunities

  5. Outcomes • Developing Leaders for the community • Strive for further education • Sustainable Partnerships • Developing relationships with Families • Building a reputation
