  1. Can Choosing Ayurveda Provide Permanent Relief? Polycystic kidney disease is a genetic medical condition in which an ample number of fluid-filled sacs form in the kidneys and damage kidney tissue. Cysts may grow large and can enlarge kidneys as well. Due to abnormal growth, the cystic formation can damage kidneys severely. If this genetic kidney disease goes untreated, it may cause kidney failure. So, PKD is one of the top causes of kidney failure. Early diagnosis of PKD can play a key role in its treatment. If the cysts are detected in their early growth stage, it’s easier to cure them as compared to the large cysts case where they have damaged most of your kidneys. Medicines, dialysis and kidney transplant can be used to manage this life-threatening kidney disorder at different stages. The modern treatment methods have many drawbacks, and thus they can’t provide a permanent cure. But don’t worry, where Allopathy limits, Ayurveda’s healing capacity starts. This genetic problem can be cured and prevented using PKD in Ayurveda and also making some necessary alternations in day-to-day life. Types of Polycystic Kidney Disease Polycystic kidney disease is commonly of two types that are; • Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD)- This type of polycystic kidney disease is known as adult PKD as it develops in the age of 30 to 40 years. One parent has a problem that is passed to children through gene mutation. • Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD)- It’s a rare form of PKD in which the symptoms appear right from birth or sometimes when a kid is in his mother’s womb. Both parents have the abnormal gene of the disease that gets passed to their children. Symptoms of Polycystic Kidney Disease Initially, polycystic kidney disease goes asymptomatic as they cause no noticeable symptoms. With their growth, cysts start damaging kidney tissue, and therefore kidney functionality deteriorates. At this health stage, several symptoms can appear due to impaired kidney functioning. Common PKD symptoms include; • • • • • • • • Hypertension Feeling of abdomen fullness causing loss of appetite Back and side pain Headache Increased abdomen due to enlarged kidneys Blood in urine Kidney failure Kidney stone Many other symptoms may appear with deterioration of your kidney health. If your doctor suggests any kidney disease, he will order some tests to determine your kidney health. Diagnosis of polycystic kidney disease Polycystic kidney disease can be diagnosed with some Imaging tests. Ultrasound is the primary test that is commonly used to detect this kidney disease. With other Imaging tests, your entire kidney health can be determined. With these tests, Renal Biopsy may also be considered further to check your overall kidney health. Your PKD treatment depends upon your reports. How PKD Occurs in Ayurveda?

  2. According to Ayurveda, the vitiation in three body doshas leads to health issues. When it comes to PKD, the imbalance of all three Doshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha are involved in causing polycystic kidney disease. By improving the imbalance of the doshas, Ayurvedic treatment can help cure this problem naturally. Keeping in mind doshas, dhatus and other biological energies imbalance, Ayurvedic treatment prepares a personalized treatment. This holistic treatment is also based on the patient's body type, age, gender, etc. PKD treatment in Ayurveda mainly consists of natural herbs, ancient therapies, diet, Yoga and few alterations in lifestyle. Ayurvedic medicines are a combination of natural herbs that possess therapeutic properties which help in alleviating complications and symptoms of polycystic kidney disease. Additionally, some herbs also repair kidney damage by generating new kidney disease tissue. Along with this, this treatment also uses some ancient therapies and a kidney-friendly diet. The diet also helps in balancing the dosha imbalance. Yoga is also an important part of Ayurvedic treatment for PKD. Certain Yoga poses and breathing exercises may be helpful in PKD treatment.
