  1. Improving process efficiency- THE IMPEC WAY

  2. IMPEC AS • Established in 1974 • Close to smelters and customers • Licensed technology • Focus on HSE

  3. Products • IMPEC is supplier of Rodding Shops and other products for the Aluminium Industry • IMPEC has done modifications with full capacity in existing rodding shop • We can offer all equipments used in modern rodding shop • Own in house engineering • Supplier of equipment for electrolysis • Specialists in aluminium welding (bus bars, transitions joints, steel – copper, etc)

  4. Rod/yoke straightening • Automatically straightens all bent rods. • Ensures correct angle between yoke and rod. • Special couplings to prevent leakage from cylinders.

  5. Rod Grinding • To improve the surface finish • Removes spikes, marks and scratches • Increases current efficiency • Can brush one or two sides • Delivered with collector and suction • Easy to install in existing plant • References: • Hydro Aluminium - Norway • Slovalco - Slovakia

  6. Induction heating We deliver silent inductor heaters for: • Pre-warming before dipping in graphite • Pre-warming of stubs before casting • Heating of stubs before stub straightening • Drying of stub holes References: Hydro Aluminium – Årdal, Høyanger, Karmoy, Sunndal Elkem – Norway Sør Norge Aluminium – Norway Dubal - Dubai

  7. Induction heating Stub hole dryer. Induction heater coil inserted in stub hole. Maximum power efficiency. Stub hole sprayed with water Heating for 30 sek with 70kW

  8. Tumblers • IMPEC delivers tumbler systems to the rodding shop • Thimble tumbler • Clean the remains of carbon and bath from the thimbles • Flexible loading and unloading of thimbles • The cleaning process is done by batches • References: Kubal - Sweden

  9. Tumblers • References: • Elkem Mosjøen - Norway • Hydro – Ardal - Norway • Qatalum - Qatar • Butt tumbler • Cleans the sodium of the carbon butts. • Handles full size butts coming from the butt stripper • The cleaning process is a continuous process or by batches.

  10. Stub straightening Unique design that: • Straighten stubs without applying any force to the yoke / spider • Same machine can be used for different stub size • Same design for all kind of yoke / spider configurations • Standardized components • Straighten pins with diameter190mm and length of 250mm. • Equipped with silent induction heater and vision system for accurate straightening of individual stubs

  11. Vision for Rodding • Butt Classification • Butt Dimension • Height, Area or Volume • Bath Inspection • Area and Coverage % • Classification • Stub Classification/Stub Measurement • 2D Measurement (cowboy) • 3D Measurement • Stub Length, Diameter (min, max, mean) • Stub Shape Classification • Bimetal Crack Detection - tbd • Rod Tracking System • Reading number on anode • Reading numbers / position in pot line

  12. Vision for Rodding Multiple application are connected over tcp/ip to a Scorpion Vision Rodding Server • Low deployment and installation cost with digital ip-cameras • Remote support and configuration References: Hydro Aluminium – Årdal, Sunndal, Høyanger, Karmøy, Neuss. Slovalco - Slovakia Qatalum – Qatar Søral - Norway Dubal - Dubai

  13. Anode slot cutting machine • Lyng Blade • High performance • Long lifetime • Narrow cut-less waste • Patented • Rigid construction • High capacity • Flexibility • Range of slots, depth and slope • Fast tool replacement

  14. Anode jacking frame / Rack Raiser Manual or semi-automatic • Proven technology • Easy operation and maintenance • Low weight References: Hydro Aluminium – Norway Kubal - Sweden

  15. Offline butt stripper • Machine for stripping butts that can’t go into the rodding shop. • Full size carbon blocks • Butts attached to faulty rod (broken, bended…) • Forklift mounted model • Using hydraulic power from forklift • Stand alone machine • Complete independent machine • Crawl hoist unit for feeding of anode assembly

  16. IMPEC’s equipment • Turn-key system • ensures system interfaces • Flexible capacity • Cost efficient • Field proven equipment • approved components chosen by experience • Low maintenance cost • High quality • Reliable • User friendly
