  5. BEFORE YOU WRITE A RESUME • Know the organization • Review the mission statement • Review the job description • Write your resume with job in mind • Include volunteer and extracurricular activities related to job

  6. THINGS TO DO • Cover Letter • Synopsis of qualification & accomplishments • Employment applications completed in entirety • Be truthful • Use Spell Check • Check yourself before you wreck yourself • Social media language • Professional email addresses

  7. THINGS TO AVOID • No pictures of yourself or anything else • No fancy fonts, colors or embedded images • No references • List on separate sheet • No former job responsibilities • List accomplishments • No descriptive email addresses • No odors (perfume or smokes)

  8. FOLLOW THROUGH • No response • Reconnect and check on status • Do not overdo it • Be reasonable • Ask how long applications are kept • 6 months • Re-apply
