  8. Blasphemy! • 5, your sins are forgiven • 6-7, understood claims: “Blasphemy” (Mk.14:62-64; Jn.10:30, 33) “Spec. of those who by contemptuous speech intentionally come short of the reverence due to God or to sacred things”(Th. 102)

  9. “Since Jesus claims for his words and actions messianic authority, and at the same time assumes rights and powers (e.g. to forgive sins, Lk.5:21), which in the view of the religious Jews and scribes belong to God alone, he is regarded in these circles as a blasphemer”(DNTT III 342)

  10. Observations • 6: What apostles deny, Jesus claims • 7: “God alone…” Correct theology; wrong reaction • 5: actual pardon, not mere statement (Ac.1:24; Jn.2:24-25) Ac.3:12, 16, credit to whom credit Ac.8:22, if perhaps / if possible If Jews misunderstood, why not correct them?
