  1. Lesson 3Q5: Explain the transcendental situation of Lord Näräyaëa, who is Himself the Absolute Truth and the Supersoul of everyone (11.3.34)Q6: Explain the process of karma-yoga (11.3.41)

  2. Q5: Explain the transcendental situation of Lord Näräyaëa(11.3.34) ÇréPippläyana answers (11.3.35-40) • The SPG is the cause of creation, maintenance and dissolution of the universe, while He has no prior cause. As the Supersoul, He enlivens the body, senses, life airs, and all other functions. He is the Absolute Truth (AT), which is realized in three phases: Brahman, Paramätmä, and Bhagawän. (35) • The body, mind, or the senses cannot penetrate the AT. Even the Vedas cannot describe it in mere words, although it does serve as the evidence of the AT. (36; Contd)

  3. Q5 (Contd) • The AT is the source of Brahman as the gross and subtle material manifestations (external potency), but simultaneously transcendental to them  material nature manifest as the 3 modes of material nature (37). • The AT is also the source of Brahman as the eternal spirit soul (internal potency), which is pure consciousness, although assumes different material designations when in contact with various material bodies due to material desires (38, 39). • Ds purifies the heart of all material desire (40; Contd).

  4. Brahman Paramätmä Bhagavän • The Individual Spirit Soul • The internal potency The three Puruña incarnations for the purpose of creation • The Absolute Truth • The cause of all causes • Impersonal feature • Advaya-Jïäna, or the transcendenal reality Mahä-Viñëu Contact due to illusion • Material Nature • The external potency • Manifest or unmanifest Ksirodakaçäyi-Viñëu Garbhodakaçäyi-Viñëu

  5. Q5 (Contd) • Material senses cannot appreciate Krsna’s holy name, etc, unless when awakened by KC  Similarly, the AT cannot be approached  The sage himself is describing the AT with his transcendental senses, and King Nimi is able to understand the AT thru transcendental sound because he has surrendered to the devotees, the Nava-Yogendras. • The AT possesses innumerable potencies  gross & subtle features of the material world, not false but temporary  bewilders the living entity thru the modes of material nature  foolishly thinks to be permanent. • Everything within the gross and subtle cosmic manifestation is the potency of the Lord  must be utilized in His service (Contd)

  6. Q5 (Contd) • The spirit soul is the internal potency of the AT  eternal and unchangeable unlike his material body. However, because of misidentification of himself with his body, perceives the transformational changes  illusion • The soul is in pure consciousness and eternal, but when in contact with his senses, it may be perceived in terms of particular sensory function  temporarily covered. In KC (dhira), however, no longer bewildered. (Contd)

  7. Q5 (Contd) • In deep sleep, the mind and the senses are totally inactive (unlike in the dream state)  preliminary experience of the soul. Why then on waking up one returns to illusory material existence? • Because he remains captured within the bondage of material desires  specific process is required to eliminate the cause of material existence, namely the material desires for material family, society, friendship and love  such desires cause further bondage • Devotional service automatically brings detachment

  8. Q6: Explain the process of karma-yoga (11.3.41) Çré Ävirhotra answers (11.3.43-55) • Karma, or prescribed duties according to the Vedic injunctions (good karma) • Vikarma, or actions in violations of the Vedic injunctions due to strong material desires (bad karma) • Akarma, or all actions performed just for the pleasure of the Supreme Lord (no karmic bondage) (Contd)

  9. Process of Karma-yoga (Contd) • Without proper study of the Vedic scriptures, it is not possible to understand the intricacies of the laws of karma (43). • Karma-käëòa, or regulative fruitive activities according to the Vedic rituals have certain utility for those in material consciousness, despite it is not recommended because of the associated modes  Analogy of a father giving medicine in a candy to his son, who won’t otherwise take the needed medicine (44). Besides, the Supreme is already indicated even in Karma-käëòa rituals (Bg 3.14-16). (Contd)

  10. Process of Karma-yoga (Contd) • The ignorant person without the mind and sense control do not adhere to the Vedic injunctions  vikarma, or sinful activities  perpetual material existence, or transmigration (45). • By executing without attachment the regulated activities prescribed in the Vedas and offering the results to the Supreme Lord (niskäma-karma-yoga) freedom from the karmic bondage (46). • To effectively deal with the false ego, which bind the soul, the practice of devotional service according to çästra while engaging his senses under the guidance of a bona fide guru is recommended (vaidhi-sädhanä-bhakti). • If one desires to quickly cut the knot of false ego, deity worship is recommended (47-55).
