  4. WHAT NOT TO DO • Bad Elevator Speech Example • Good Elevator Speech Example

  5. PURPOSE • To briefly introduce yourself to a potential contact • Hit the main points of your skills, aspirations, organizations, etc • Often called the “elevator speech” • If you were in the elevator with a potential employer, how would you sell yourself?

  6. NAME • Hello, my name is Hailey Lainer

  7. YEAR, SCHOOL • I am a senior at Illinois State University

  8. MAJOR AND MINOR • I am a public relations major with a minor in psychology.

  9. INTERNSHIP/WORK EXPERIENCE • As an member of PRSSA since my freshman year, I have served as the Socials Chair as well as the Newsletter Chair.

  10. POSITIONS, AWARDS, ACHIEVEMENTS • As the current president for ISU’s Chapter of PRSSA I oversee all chapter activities and the chapter’s student run firm, manage the executive board and directors, and edit all the chapter publications.

  11. FUTURE PLANS • Right now I am enjoying being President of our organization and using it as a great learning experience. • Long-term, I am looking for a job that will allow me to pursue my passion for the PR field, and I am very interested in working for an agency.

CHAPTER RELATED ABSENCES FROM CLASS • Failure to abide by this policy will result in consequences determined by the instructor, which may include receiving a score of zero (0) or a failing grade (F) for the exam, quiz, or assignment. • NOTE: If there the class’ syllabus has a different policy, it would take precedence over this one. Any PRSSA student listed to be excused for an agency tour or other Chapter activity must: • Follow the policies and expectations given in a class’ syllabus. • At least three calendar days before the event, schedule either (1) the taking of an exam or quiz or (2) the completion of an assignment for a class that would be missed.
