Guess! • Then fill in the third column answering: “How • confidant are you that your definition is correct?” • Choices: “confidant,” “somewhat confidant,” “not confidant.” 9/22/11 23L (10-15 min)

Objective:Students can explain most of the genetics vocabulary in their own words and in images. You Do: Nature or nuture? Vocabulary: 23L 23R

  7. You Do: Nature or nuture? The child is born with certain genes and this never changes.  The child’s environment, and culture, TEACH a child to be the way they are. • Please listen carefully as I read the article “The Great Debate: Nature vs. Nuture.” Be ready to give your own opinion. • After hearing the article, please write each statement and decide whether you agree or disagree. Explain your answer. A smart person was not born smart. They were raised to be smart. Answer: The three traits of intelligence, speed, and shyness are all determined by both genes and environment. The genes are like the “seed” and the environment is like the “soil” it grows in. 2. A fast runner was born to be fast, it doesn’t matter how much they practice or what kind of food they eat. 3. A shy person was born to be shy. It doesn’t matter what kind of childhood or environment they grew up in. 23L (15 min)

Please copy questions #1-18 from the workbook and answer them using the book pages 154-159. • Please work silently and on your own. • You will need this information to study for the Benchmark, so please find the correct answers. We will check the answers during next class. • As soon as you finish, please show me your work and I will give you 20 new flashcards and let you borrow the hole punch. • Before you leave today, you must finish at least 10 flashcards. (30 min) The word goes on the front and the definition goes on the back. Use your packet to get the definitions. Please write neatly. • We will complete the picture for each flashcard during next class.
