Prevention Strategies: Awareness increasing intervention • A specifically tailored didactic and pedagogical booklet about healthy lifestyles with information about the possibility to seek help for unhealthy, suicidal behavior and mental health problems • Lectures with role-play • Posters in the classroom

Suicide Prevention through Internet and Media Based Mental Health Promotion • SUPREME is a suicide prevention e-health programme targeting young people between the ages 14 and 24. • The project is funded (60%) through the Health Programme by the Executive Agency for Health and Consumers (EAHC).

Objectives of the SUPREME project • To develop and evaluate a sustainable internet based intervention • To systematically review evaluated internet-based intervention studies • To identify and systematically describe existing suicide-preventive websites • Establish and disseminate guidelines based on all of the above

Help • On-site chat with mental health professional • Help-line referral (through establishing partnerships) • On-site anonymous email to mental health professional SUPREME Intervention Website achieving the objectives • Inform • Concise “static” information pages on mental health related topics • Definitions of terms related to mental health • Description of mental health problems • Awareness increasing learning modules • Mental health monitor module • Scales for self-assessment of mental health and well-being • Engage • Idea-box – professional feedback • Platform for (moderated) peer-to-peer communication about mental health

  9. Preliminary results Significant at p<0.001 • N= 1914 (females: 55.3%; mean age: 15.85 years) Significant at p<0.05 A trend towards reduction of suicide attempts was observed in website users in comparison with the control group.
