  1. Dolphins on ParadeA Public Art Project in Support of Georgia AquariumCelebrating the Opening of our New Dolphin Exhibit:

  2. Overview Local Artists, in partnership with Dolphins on Parade sponsors, will create unique designs for 75-100, 65” tall fiberglass dolphin statues. The Dolphins on Parade will be statues appearing in approved locations chosen by sponsors on city streets, in lobbies, in parks, etc. The core area for the dolphins will be in the Centennial Olympic Park Area, Downtown and Midtown. The Dolphin Parade will begin at the Georgia Aquarium during the opening weeks of the new dolphin gallery. Then slowly, over the course of several weeks the dolphins will parade out to new locations around the city. Tools such as website promotion, social media with Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr, and marketing to our Aquarium visitors will be used to generate excitement and direct guests to their locations. This program is modelled after other successful community art projects like the “Cows on Parade,” “Town Turtles” of Sandy Springs, “We Let the Dogs Out” in Athens, GA and the Atlanta All-Star Baseballs.

  4. Project Priorities • Celebrate the opening of the Dolphin Exhibit, at&t Dolphin Tales • Capture the imaginations of all viewers • Promote the spirit of the Aquarium by creating awareness for education and community programs • Promote pride for residents of Atlanta • Create “buzz” among tourists • Engage local artists and the local arts community • Provide sponsors visual representation of their support • Achieve fundraising goal

  5. Cause – SEA Program Georgia Aquarium educates thousands of students each year through both formal and field trip-style programs. The activities and classes fill a gap in our education system by allowing trained educators to cover important topics in science, math and humanities that relate directly to Georgia performance standards and to testing success. The approach is hands on and engaging so that students leave with experiences that last a lifetime. Through generous donations the Aquarium is able to provide these programs at a sponsored rate of $11 to all students. Dolphins on Parade will fund our “Sponsored Education Admissions” Program and allow these efforts to continue into the future.

  8. Locations Sponsors may propose any location they choose. We suggest that initially dolphins be displayed at a locations visible from the street. Georgia Aquarium is creating a list of possible locations that will be available for review in late summer/early fall.

  9. Artists Georgia Aquarium is working with City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs, Fulton County Arts Council Artists Registry, Georgia Council for the Arts, local schools and universities, and local galleries to offer a list of artists who will receive a honorarium for the creation of a dolphin. In the summer, sponsors will be able to select a design from this artists group or be able to contract their own artist for the creation of the dolphin design.

  10. Design Guidelines Sponsors will have the freedom to select from complied designs or to collaborate with an artist to modify a design or create a new one. • Artistic merit must be greater than commercial design • Logos or direct advertising should be avoided or become part of the artistic design • No political, religious or sexual content is allowed • Public safety and vandal-proof consideration in the design is a must
