  1. Parent Meeting September 26, 2013 Savannah Georgia8th Grade TripMay 14, 15, and 16th2014

  2. TransportationProvided by American Coach • Students will depart school at 6:30 am the morning of Wednesday, May 14th. They should have a sack lunch for when we arrive in Savannah. • We will return back at school on Friday May 16th around 7:30pm. We will have them call when we get close. • They will not have eaten dinner , so they will be hungry! We will provide them with a snack on the way home. • Please be prompt when you pick them up on Friday, May 16th.

  3. Sample Itinerary Example for Buses 1 and 2. • Arrive/Depart Schedule • Wednesday, May 14, 2014 • 6:30am Depart Liberty Middle School. • 12:30pm -2:15pm Arrive in the Savannah area at Old Fort Jackson. Everyone will have the opportunity to eat lunch on the grounds followed by an interpretive “Student Militia” program and time to explore the Fort. • 2:45pm -4:30pm Visit the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum for a directed tour. • 5:00-5:45 Check in to the Inn at Ellis Square (Days Inn Historic District) (912) 236-1024. • 6:15pm -7:15pm Dinner will be at Oglethorpe Mall. Students will receive $10 for dinner. • 7:45pm 9:00pm Arrive at the Visitor’s Center for a “Haunted Legends” trolley tour in the Historic District. • 9:00pm Return to the hotel.

  4. Continued Sample Intinerary Buses 1 and 2. • Day 2 Thursday, May 15, 2014 • 7:45am Depart the hotel. • 8:15am 9:00am Full breakfast will be served at Barnes Family Restaurant. • 9:15am- 11:00am Arrive at Oatland Wildlife Center where everyone will attend an interpretive program followed by time to explore the live wildlife exhibits. • 11:45am 1:00pm Arrive at the Lazaretto Creek Marina for a “dolphin sighting” boat ride along the waterways by Fort Pulaski, the Cockspur Lighthouse, and into the ocean inlet at Tybee Island. • 12:45pm - 1:30pm A pizza picnic lunch will be served at the Tybee Beach Pier. • 1:45-4:00 pm The group will gather at the Tybee Marine Science Center for beach and aquarium programs focusing on beach ecology and oceanography followed by time for independent exploration. • 4:45pm - 5:45pm Return to the hotel to prepare for dinner. • 6:00pm - 9:00pm Arrive at the Railroad Roundhouse for a dinner / dance with a live DJ and dance floor. • 9:15pm Return to the hotel.

  5. Itinerary Day 3 • Friday, May 16, 2014 • 7:30am Check out and depart the hotel. • 7:45am 8:30am Full breakfast will be served at Golden Corral. • 9:00am 10:00am Interpretive talk and tour of the First African Baptist Church. • 10:15am 11:15am Visit the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist for a docent guided tour. • 11:45am 1:00pm Board the Savannah River Queen for a narrated tour of the Savannah River. Lunch will be served on board. • 1:00pm 2:00pm Time will be available for souvenir shopping along River Street. • 2:00pm Depart Savannah. • 7:15pm Return to Liberty Middle School.

  6. Accomodations • Transportation - Round Trip via Luxury Motor Coaches. • Meals –All meals EXCEPT lunch on the first day will be included. • Hotel Inn at Ellis Square (Days Inn Historic District) (912) – 236-1024

  7. Student Insurance andMedicine and Medication Forms • Insurance Information must be provided on the permission form along with a copy of your insurance card. If you do not have insurance you can buy it through the school for around $15.00 (Peach Care). Please provide a copy of your insurance card after January 1, 2014 • Medication Forms are in tonight's packet. • Please make sure all medicines and medication forms are brought early so that Dawn Hickmon, our school nurse, can have everything arranged ahead of time.

  8. Paying for the Trip • The cost for this years trip is $340.00. • Payment can be made in one lump sum OR can be made in four installments with the first payment of $85.00 due October 11th . • Spending money is optional, many do like to buy snacks and drinks at the hotel, and the last day we will be walking and shopping on River Street.

  9. Scholarships • We want every childto participate in the Savannah Trip. We do not want money to be an issue. We do have scholarship funds available to those who need the help. • There is an application to fill out which is available tonight or you can contact Mrs. White at kiwhite@forsyth.k12.ga.us and one will be sent to you. Funds are limited, so it is on a first come first serve basis. Last year we were able to help 30 students.

  10. Scholarship funding- We need your help!!! • Snack Shack- We do almost every Friday. Profits from this go in our scholarship fund. • Coke Sales- We will do a Coke sale in the fall. Profits from this go in our scholarship fund. • Donut Sales – We will sell KrispyKreme donuts after Christmas. Profits will also help our scholarship fund. • If you are requesting financial aid, the students must participate in either the Coke or Donut Sale to help defer costs.

  11. Chaperones and Safety • There will be teacher chaperones on each bus and on each level of the Hotel. • There will also be security guards on duty in the Hotel hired by the travel company. • And yes we do tape them in their rooms at night.

  12. Lodging in the Hotel • Rooms • Four students to a room • Same gender in each room ! • Every hall/floor is split by gender as well • Room Assignments Students will sign up for their rooms in the spring (after spring break). Students can room with any 8th grader regardless of which team they are on

  13. What to bring?? • One suitcase and a carry-on bag. • We will send home a packing list as get closer to departure. • Do not send nice clothes and shoes. • NO BATHING SUITS! • School dress code applies at all times. • Hats are allowed. • Send bug spray and sunscreen • Electronics are ok, but we can not be held responsible if they are lost or stolen.

  14. Student Eligibility • All students are eligible to participate unless: • They get ISS or OSS after the parent meeting on 9/26 (today) • A student has 5 or more unexcused absences after 9/26 (today). • A student is failing more than one class at the time of the trip. • Refunds will be given on the deposit ($170) until the final payment is made by the school. After the final payment is made, you will lose the deposit if you choose not to participate OR become ineligible due to one of the above.
