  3. Objectives: • Sensitising, promoting information sharing on key ARD areas • Bringing different perspectives and promoting exchange of expertise • Informing the policy-makers at ACP-EU and regional levels

  4. Background 2012: • Brussels Briefing on Small island economies: from vulnerabilities to opportunities • ACP Briefing in Mauritius • ECS Caribbean Briefing on regional green growth strategy • Pacific Briefing on Resilience to CC

  5. Mauritius conclusions- Political level • Value of speaking with ”one SIDS voice” • Increase visibility of SIDS with ACP/EU • Interregional and regional cooperation key • The role of public sector in providing an enabling environment (Mauritius) • Need to “regionalize Rio+20” (UNESCAP)

Mauritius conclusions- Sustainable Dev • Diversification is key (sound policies and interlinkages between sectors) • Agriculture needs to be mainstreamed within the key sectors • Social capital as one of the major assets needs to be turned in an advantage • Green growth and green investment have the potential to spur growth

Mauritius conclusions- Private sector • Need to develop smart partnerships between public, private and dev partners • Facilitate technology transfer to develop alternative and appropriate technologies (Technology Transfer Facility) • Identifying champions within private sectors and promoting entrepreneurship • Adding value through branding, distinctive and differentiated products and markets

  8. Mauritius conclusions- Sharing solutions • Establish online Knowledge and Learning Platform to exchange knowledge and experiences • Documenting best practices and successful models • Strengthening partnerships and promoting new financing models

  9. Expected outcomes: • Exchange of experiences and identification of potential needed support (research, upscaling, documenting...) • Key actions at regional level where we could partner to make a change • Communiqué for the Ministers and Heads of State with our key messages
