  1. Colombia Created By; Frucisierre Hoffman, Lillian Antillion, Autumn Starnes, Julia Moore,

  2. Where is Colombia located? • Colombia is located in the northwestern region of South America bordering to the east with Venezuela and Brazil; to the south with Ecuador and Peru; to the North with the Atlantic Ocean, through the Caribbean Sea; and to the west with Panama and the Pacific Ocean. Colombia is the 26th largest nation in the world and the fourth-largest country in South America after Brazil, Argentina, and Peru.

  3. The Main Religion Of Colombia. • Catholicism was the official religion of the country since the Spanish colonization until the 1991 constitutional reform (National Constituent Assembly), which granted equalitarian treatment from the government to all the religions. However, Catholicism is still the main religion in Colombia by number of adepts, with an estimated of 75% of the national population in nominal Catholicism, from which about 25% are practicing Catholics.

  4. The main ethnic groups of colombia. • Some of the main ethnic groups in Colombia is the mestizo (mixed white and Amerindian), constituting about 58% of the total population in the 1998. An estimated 20% of the inhabitants are of unmixed white ancestry; 14% are mulatto (black–white); 4% are black; 3% are zambo (black–Indian); and 1% are pure Amerindian. Blacks and mulattoes are concentrated in the coastal regions and tropical valleys. Pure Amerindians are rapidly disappearing; the remaining few live mainly in inaccessible and barren regions.

  5. The main language of Colombia • Colombian Sign Language is a language used by an estimated 250,000 deaf Colombians. • The official language of Colombia is Spanish. The Colombian Spanish accent is the variance of Spanish language with an emphasis spoken in Colombia, which has some typical features compare to the Spanish spoken in Spain. Sign languages use in the country are Colombian numerals, Colombian Sign Language and Providence Island Sign Language.

  6. Clothing in Colombia • The traditional clothing is a puffy white shirt with black pants for boys and a white blouse with a black skirt for girls for girls.  Colombians use red to accent and bring some color into clothing.   Some times the girls wear all red skirts instead of black skirts with red accents.

  7. Colombia political system • Like the American system of government, Colombia's political structure is divided into executive, judicial, and legislative branches of government, with the latter, like the American system divided into a Senate and a House of Representatives. Senators are elected via a national ballot, while representatives are elected by their local constituents. Congress convenes twice annually, and the president can summon a special session when necessary. However, unlike the American system, the Colombian president is chosen directly by the electorate, without the intervention of an electoral college. He then serves as both head of state and head of government, overseeing a multi-party representative democracy.

  8. Colombia’s economy Good or Bad? Colombia is a Democratic Country. Presidential Elections are held every 4 years the same as the Senate and Congress. Vaccination against violence and ill-treatment of children Violence in Colombia (South America) is a serious social problem, as over a period of years, thousands of people, including children, have been victims of aggression in all its forms. However something can be done to break the cycles of violence through various actions. The aim of the project outlined here, elaborated by Manizales-Caldas in Colombia, is one of PROMOTION AND PREVENTION by means of reflection but also interactive methods geared to developing a sense of recognition and reconciliation between individuals, based on non-violent resolution of conflicts to save children - the most vulnerable beings socially speaking - from aggression.

  9. Part Two • Violence is the cause of a good many public health problems in Colombia. Each day there are 70 violent murders, 10 political assassinations as well as 10 child deaths through ill-treatment and sexual abuse. Furthermore, 7000 children are involved in fighting organizations. It is also clear that the violence gripping our country today is repeated through the generations in the form of unbroken cycles as many of the adults who ill-treat their children were themselves ill-treated during their childhood.

  10. The Main Ethnic Groups Of Colombia. • 58% of the population is mestizo, or of mixed European and Amerindian ancestry, while 20% is of European ancestry. Another 14% is mulatto, or of mixed black African and European ancestry, while 4% is of black African ancestry and 3% are zambos, of mixed black African and Amerindian ancestry. Pure indigenous Amerindians comprise 1 percent of the population. There are 101 languages listed for Colombia . Presidential Republic

The only means of transportation in 60 percent of the country is via waterways, but guerrilla groups control the waterways in the south and southeast.

  17. Are the U.S and Colombia friends or foes? • Colombia's recently elected President, Juan Manuel Santos, has yet again proven that he puts regional political pressure above his commitment to Colombia's most important ally – the United States. This morning, in delivering the report for his first 100 days in office, Santos announced that he would seek extradition for Walid Makled, Venezuela's most significant drug kingpin, captured on August 18th in Colombia and wanted by the United States for drug trafficking, back to Venezuela. In his speech, he stated, “when we captured [Makled], we received the extradition request from Venezuela well before the United States. The extradition request from Venezuela is not only for drug trafficking but for other crimes.” Makled is also wanted in Venezuela for the alleged murder of journalist Orel Sambrano. clandestine airfields and flown cargo planes full of drugs around the world - including into West Africa, a route only just now being uncovered.
