  3. MISSION STATEMENT NSBE’s Mission is “To increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.”

  4. BLACK HISTORY FACTS • Judy W. Reed • First African American woman to obtain a patent in 1884 • Unable to write her own name • Invented hand-operated machine used to knead and roll dough

  5. BLACK HISTORY FACTS • Sarah Goode • 1850-1909 • Second African American woman to receive patent, often credited with being the first • Received patent in July 14, 1885 • Owned a Chicago Furniture store • Invented a Cabinet Bed

LETTERS TO OBAMA CAMPAIGN • This is the campaign to bring President BarackObama to NSBE’s 2011 Annual Convention in St. Louis, MO. • NSBE wants to show President Obama not only the strength of our numbers, but also our passion for the cause he has embraced – “Educate to Innovate” – a cause that reflects the heart of NSBE’s mission.
