LIBERAL PARTY CRACKDOWN • 1901 – LEONIDAS PLAZA GUTIERREZ • THE ARMY AND THE ASSEMBLY SUPPORTED HIM • GOVERNMENT BOARD FORMED BY COAST AND HIGHLAND REPRESENTATIVES AND SOME CONSERVATIVES • HIS FIGHT WAS FOCUSED ON THE CHURCH • HE WAS SUPPORTED BY ALFARO’S ENEMIES • 1905 – LIZARDO GARCIA • ALFARO FORCED HIM TO SURRENDER ON JANUARY 16TH. • ALFARO’S AIM WAS TO SAVE THE REVOLUTION

ALFARO’S SECOND PRESIDENCY • 1906 – SECOND LIBERAL CONSTITUTION • IT TOOK AWAY CHURCH PROPERTIES • JULY 25TH, 1906 – THE RAILROAD • 1907- ALFARO STARTED LOSING SUPPORT OF THE MIDDLE CLASS • 1911 – VICTOR EMILIO ESTRADA – FRAUD • “We are not losing with ballots what we won with bullets.” • ESTRADA DIED IN 1911 • CARLOS FREILE ZALDUMBIDE PRESIDENCY • FLAVIO ALFARO REVOLTS IN ESMERALDAS AND GUAYAQUIL • BATTLES OF HUIGRA, NARANJITO Y YAGUACHI – ALFARO IS TAKEN AS PRISIONER. • ALFARO WAS SENT TO QUITO BY TRAIN • HE WAS MURDERED ON JANUARY 28TH, 1912

  8. ALFARO WANTED A SECULAR AND MODERN STATE WHICH INCLUDED INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT, LABOR CLASS ORGANIZATION AND FARMERS FREEDOM. THESE AIMS WERE NOT WELCOMED BY THE BURGOISSE CLASS AND LANDOWNERS. PEOPLE MOVILITY AND RECONSTRUCTION PLANS WERE NOT COMPLETED, BUT THERE WERE REASON ENOUGH TO GRANT HIM POWERFUL ENEMIES. RADICAL LIBERALISM BROUGHT HIM TO POWER AND TOOK IT AWAY FROM HIM. SUMMARY
