  4. “Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication.” -Leonardo Da Vinci

  5. Simple Structure Guy Kawasaki’s 10-20-30 Rule • 10: Ten informative slides per presentation • 20: Twenty minute presentation • 30: Minimum thirty-point font size

  6. Why 10? • Slides should outline material • Focus on whoyou are, what you do, and why it matters • Branding: • Your image is your brand • Incorporate what makes you different on each slide, because people will pay attention and are more likely to respond

  7. Why 20? • Studies show that the average attention span for an adult watching a presentation is twenty minutes • Taking breaks: • You can extend the audience’s attention span by taking short breaks • Examples of effective “breaks”: a blank slide, a short story, or a demonstration

  8. Why 30? • Ensures that audience can read your slides • Forces you to know your material • Word Count: • 30 point font keeps word count low • 40 words per slide • When possible, substitute images for words

  9. “We all love stories; stories affirm who we are.” -Andrew Stanton

  10. Engaging Stories • Revolve around a central question, for which you are proposing a solution • Make numbers relevant by putting them into terms your audience understands • Inspire anticipation, wonder, and curiosity • Always express a take-home message • Be passionate

  11. Beyond the Presentation • Practice makes perfect • Simplify • Don’t use clichés • Learn from the experts • Keep your audience in mind Image by Hubspot
