  1.  The word probability is used to express the favourable outcomes of any event.  Example:- 1) Most probably it will rain today. 2) I doubt that he will pass the test. These words show the probability of occurrence of an event.

  2. P(E) = No. of favourable outcomes Total no. of outcomes Example:- When one coin is tossed, find the probability of getting a head or tail. No. of favourable outcomes:- 1 Total no. of outcomes:- 2 P(E) =1 2

  3.  Random Experiment :- An experiment in which exact outcomes cannot be predicted.  Trial:- Trial means performing a random experiment.

  4.  The collection of one or all possible outcomes in a probability is known as event.  When a dice is thrown one time, find the probability of getting even number ?  Event :- { Dice is even } = { 2, 4, 6 }

  5.  The set of all possible outcomes of a probability experiment is known as sample space.  Sample space of a dice :- {1,2,3,4,5,6}

  6. When a dice is thrown, find the probability of getting even no. Event of an even no. :- {2,4,6,} Sample space of a dice :- {1,2,3,4,5,6 } P(E) = No. of favourable outcomes Total no. of outcomes P(E)= 3 6

  7.  Q1:- What is probability ?  Q2:- What are trial and events ?  Q3:- What is the formula of probability ?

  8.  Q1:- If there are 30 students in a class. There are 20 girls and 10 boys. What is the probability of a girl to get first position in the class ?  Q2:- Write down the sample space of the event tossing 2 coins simultaneously.
