Types of Collisions. Elastic collisions-Two objects collide, temporarily misshape, and spring away from each other… KE and momentum are conserved . Inelastic collisions conserve momentum but not KE…some energy is lost to non-conservative forces such as thermal energy/friction.

  1. Types of Collisions Elastic collisions-Two objects collide, temporarily misshape, and spring away from each other… KE and momentum are conserved. Inelastic collisions conserve momentum but not KE…some energy is lost to non-conservative forces such as thermal energy/friction. Perfectly inelastic collisions require that the 2 objects are combined as a unit after the collision.
