  2. Compare • Author compare to tell how two or more things are alike • Clue words: alike, both, and, same, also, similarly, in addition, likewise

  3. Contrast • To tell how things are different • Clue words: but, unlike, however, on the other hand, in contrast, even though, still, yet, nevertheless

  4. Example • Read the passage located on the first page of our packet. • On your own paper, underline clue words that the narrator uses to compare and contrast. • What do these clue words tell about people and placed in the passage?

Use what you know • Spend the twenty minutes completing the packet. • Answer the questions on your own paper. • This is an independent activity designed to test your knowledge of compare and contrast and to help prepare you for standardized testing. • Furthermore, compare and contrast is a valuable tool when evaluating information you receive through multimedia outlets and may prove to be intregalto your future career.

  8. Real and Counterfeit • 1. Both have red and blue markings. • 2. A genuine bill has serial numbers that are clear and evenly spaced, but a counterfeit bill’s serial numbers are fuzzy with uneven spacing. • 3. The portrait on a fake bill is flatter, darker and less convincing than the lighter, more realistic three dimensional bill.

Players in Cricket and Baseball Alike Different • Take turns batting and fielding • A player on one team throws the ball, and a player on the other team tries to hit the ball • Similar structure and scoring, such as innings and runs • Baseball played on a diamond shaped field, whereas a cricket field is oval in shape and larger • Baseball, 9 players/ cricket, 11 players • Baseball has a home plate, cricket has two wickets • B- pitcher throws bent-armed, while C- pitcher throws straight armed. • B- few hours, 9 innings/ C- several days, 1 0r 2 innings
