SAT Word of the Day Fathom Pets that can't fathom fax machines or mirrors Fathom • -Define • -Determine the part of speech: VERB • -Create an original sentence using “fathom” To comprehend; to understand Example: Since I have always done my work, I cannot fathom why my boss just fired me. Example: Jackson could not fathom the solution to the complex puzzle.

  2. Work in groups to come up with your own memory trick for the word fathom.

  3. College Essays… • Depending on when you hand in your paper will determine the amount of points you earn for the college essay component of your final portfolio • May 30th: 20/20 • June 5th: 15/20 • June 9th: 10/20 • June 11th: 5/20 • If you would like additional feedback on your essay, please let me know. I will conference with you during Tutorology on Monday. (Have questions ready… ~5 minutes per conference)

Example: Our teacher was irascible today and kicked several students out of the classroom.
