  1. The Spanish National Programmes, Initiatives and Agencies Involved in the Promotion and Support of Genomic Initiatives Biotechnology Programme Strategic Action on Genomics and Proteomics Infrastructure calls for equipments Spanish Foundation for Genomics Local or Regional Goverments

  2. Activities for Microbial Genomics within the Biotechnology Programme (MCYT) include: Finance and promote research projects in which the use of genomic and proteomic tools are needed for reaching the scientific objectives One call for proposals per year Duration 3 years One single laboratory and also coordinated projects (2-5 labs) Evaluation by peer-review by national experts (ANEP) Panel of experts participate in the final decission and the prioritization of funding according to the relevance and quality of the proposal

  3. Activities for Microbial Genomics within the Biotechnology Programme also include: Promotion and support of strategic research platforms and infrastructures Financial support for meetings and symposia organization Training and mobility of young researchers New and emergent novel research groups

  4. Strategic Action on Genomics and Proteomics The goals of this strategic action, specifically related to microbial pathogens are: Estimulate and sustain multidisciplinary research to exploit the full potential of genome information Generate expertise and know-how in the field of microbial pathogens Generate fundamental knowledge and basic tools for functional genomics in microbial pathogens

  5. Organization ofthis strategicaction (2001-2004) Two calls for proposals Duration of projects: 3 years maximum Integrated projects with a minimum of 5 different labs Evaluation by peer review and panel of international experts Budget: 12 M€ per call

  6. Strategic Action on Genomics and Proteomics • 99 proposals submitted (611 subprojects) • Funding: 12 M € • 20 projects funded (129 subprojects) • Scientific Areas: • 10 Human genomics • 4 Microbial genomics • 3 Plant genomics • 1 Model organism genomics • 1 Animal genomics • 1 Structural genomics

  7. Strategic Action on Genomics and Proteomics • 99 proposals submitted (611 subprojects) • Funding: 12 M € • 20 projects funded (129 subprojects) • Scientific Areas: • 10 Human genomics • 4 Microbial genomics • 3 Plant genomics • 1 Model organism genomics • 1 Animal genomics • 1 Structural genomics

  8. GENOMA ESPAÑA • TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS • * National Genotyping Centre (CeGen) • * National DNA Bank (bancoadn) • * National Institute of Bioinformatics (INB)

  9. International research collaboration on Plant Genomics . I . • Joint trilateral call within ERA-NET: • MEC (S), GABI (D) and GENOPLANTE (F) • Call for EoI: 54 draft proposals ubmitted • Oral presentation by EoI coordinators • Call for proposals: 34 proposals submitted • Scientific Area: “Functional and comparative genomic approaches for the investigation and use of natural diversity” Topics: food quality, sustainable agriculture, physiological performance of plants, reproductive growth, metabolic networks and biotic and abiotic stresses and plant adaptation

  10. International research collaboration on Plant Genomics . II . • International peer-reviewing process by independent experts: ranking list (category A, B and C) • Joint trilateral reviewing board: final priority list combining the scientific reviewing results and the ranking by national interests • 9 proposals were funded and formally communicated to applicants with written scientific reports
