  2. Mr. President, I heard that my bank might fail. Can’t the government do something to make sure that it’s stable?

  3. Mr. President, I’m unemployed and need to work to save my family. I love to work outdoors. Can you help me?

  4. Mr. President, crop prices are dropping! I’m going to lose my farm! Help!

  5. Mr. President, I live in Nashville. We have no electricity, and the river is washing away the soil. Help us, please!

  6. Mr. Roosevelt, the only way to get the economy working is to establish codes of conduct for workers and businesses. So what if it creates monopolies?

  7. Mr. President, I used to buy stock on margin and was wiped out in the Great Crash. I’d like to invest again, but I’m still afraid to buy on margin.

  11. Mr. President, I’m about to lose my house. Can’t you help me with the mortgage?

  12. Mr. President, as a bank owner, I’d love to give a home loan, but I’m afraid people will default. What can you do?

  14. Mr. President, my business survived the market crash, but deflation means that people are spending less money. Help!

  15. Mr. Roosevelt, I’ve lost my home. My family needs somewhere to stay. Can’t the government clear the slums and build low cost housing?

  16. Mr. President. I have no money at all. Can’t the government provide a hand-out…just a little bit of government relief?

  17. Mr. Roosevelt, I’m willing to do any small job until something permanent comes along. What can you do?

  18. Mr. President, my friends and I want to start a union at the factory, but our bosses refuse to let us. It’s just not fair. What can you do? • National Labor Relations Act • Ensures workers right to unionize, collectively bargain, and not be harassed by employers

  19. Mr. President, I’m old and I have no money to survive. Who’s going to take care of me so that I can buy food and afford to live in my old age? • Social Security • Provides monthly financial assistance to the elderly after they reach a certain age

  20. Mr. President, I’m unemployed and need a job. I’d love to help build things like playgrounds, schools, and hospitals. Any ideas? • Works Progress Administration • Hired unemployed to build small public works (like playgrounds, schools, and hospitals) • Meant to be temporary • Note: Hired creative people like musicians, artists, writers, and actors to work for the government

  23. Mr. President, I’m a 16 year old girl who needs to work to help her family. No one will hire me. What can you do? • National Youth Administration • Provided education, jobs, and counseling to young men AND women age 16-25.

  24. Mr. President, my son is only 12, and his boss is terrible to him. He’s underpaid, overworked, and I don’t think he should be allowed to work at such a young age. Won’t you help him? • Fair Labor Standards Act • Sets minimum wage, maximum hours, overtime pay, and prohibits child labor
