  1. 8 Keys Lesson: Speak with Good Purpose Think before you speak. Make sure your intention is positive and your words are sincere.

  2. How many of you have had people say negative things to you? What are some of those things?

  3. What are some positive things people have said to you, which in turn have helped you to feel good about yourself?

  4. Write-Pair-Share: Words Directions: Write a response on the back of your handout. 1)Words have the power to…. 2)What does it mean to speak with good purpose?

  5. Excerpt from Rolling Thunder by Doug Boyd (Native American writer) Listen to this excerpt… Bottom line: We all have the choice about what to do with our thoughts. This doesn’t mean that everything we say should be positive- but it can always be constructive. There is always a way to communicate so that the other person’s feelings are most important.

  6. Example Situation Listen to the story… Turn to a partner and discuss what you could do in this situation. Remember that you are not responsible for what the others say; you are only responsible for what you say.

  7. Speak with Good Purpose As to way to reflect on today’s lesson, complete the handout. You will get credit!

  8. Repeat! I THINK BEFORE I SPEAK AND CHOOSE MY WORDS CAREFULLY.
