  7. The Necessity of God’s Doubt-ability God must be transcendent in order to be God—there is no concept of God that is defensible without transcendence being part of that definition. By definition, God cannot be immediately or directly known. We know God through experience, through testimony (Bible), through reason, etc. Doubt is essential because it helps us to sift through false and bad conceptions of God; and because it allows us to make a free choice.
