  2. Disco comes from the word "discotheque;" a termusedto describe the nightclubspeoplewenttoduring the 1960s and 70s. Disco music is meanttobedancedtoorto entice listenerstoget up and dance. At first, disco musicwasenjoyedinsidenightclubs, with Disc Jockeys (ordeejay/DJ) playing and mixingsongslike "Get Down Tonight" by KC and the Sunshine Band, "Never Can SayGoodbye" by Gloria Gaynor and otherartists.

  3. Lateron, the tempo of thesesongsbecamefaster, the playing time longer and songsfromothergenressuch as funkweremixed in. By the mid 1970s, disco musicdominated the airwaveswithsongslike "If I Can'tHave You" byYvonneElliman and later, "More Than A Woman," "NightFever," "Stayin' Alive" and "You Should Be Dancing" by the BeeGeesbeingplayed.

  4. Soon, disco musiccouldalsobeheardonmovies, with films likeSaturdayNight Livefurtherfuellingitspopularity. Itbecame so popular thatevenartistslike Cher, Kiss and Rod Stewart allrecorded disco songs. By the 1980s, the appeal of disco musicdwindledbutmade a comebackduring the 90s.
