  1. NEW MODELS OF ISLAMIC EDUCTION IN KERALA PRESENTED BY FAVAS SAMAD P ISALAHUL ULOOM ARABIC COLLEGE, TANUR, KERALA

  2. INTRODUCTION • The Muslims of Kerala, who form roughly a fourth of the state’s population, are divided into three broad groups, each being what could be called a separate Islamic interpretative community based on differences in the understanding and interpretation of Islam. The largest, in terms of numbers, are what are locally called ‘Sunnis’ who adhere to the Shafi school of Sunni jurisprudence and who also follow various forms of Sufism. The ‘Sunnis’ are further divided into smaller groupings. The other two broad groups among the Kerala Muslims are the Jamaat-e Islami and the Kerala Nadwatul-Mujahidin • In contrast to the Jamaat-e Islami and the Kerala Nadwatul-Mujahidin, the ‘Sunni’ ulema of Kerala, like their counterparts in north India, were slow in taking to modern and new models of islamlic education, such as preaching islamic knowledge through modern institutions with modern sciences. • . eventually Today, leading Kerala ‘Sunni’ ulema are actively involved in promoting modern education, including the modernization of traditional madrasa education..however this presentation takes a brief journey through new models of islamic education in kerala in this these all islamic aspects.

  3. MODES OF ISLAMIC EDUCATION IN KERALA The system of Islamic education started at the same time as the first few masajid were established in Kerala. Religious education among Muslims of Malabar can be divided into three distinct styles- Othupalli, Dars, and Madrasas. This system survives and now serves as centres of Islamic education for students attending schools where they learn modern subjects. Classes under Othupallis are held either before or after regular school hours to accommodate school going children

  4. Othupalli or Maktab: • Othupallis are single teacher schools set up in neighborhood mosques. The imam of the mosque also acts as the teacher of the Othupalli and gives basic Islamic education to the children of the area. • Students here are taught surahs and duas from Quran and learn to read Arabic. They will also learn how to pray and other basic Islamic teachings are imparted. • This system survives and now serves as centres of Islamic education for students attending schools where they learn modern subjects. Classes under Othupallis are held either before or after regular school hours to accommodate school going children.

  5. Student of authpalli • . The interesting feature of the Dars system is that the education is free to the students. . They get free education from the imam of the masjid, and their lodging is free on the top floors of the building. • These students are also considered guests of the locality where the masjid is situated and each house of the area is assigned a student and they are responsible for his food

  15. Conclusion Now islamic education and preaching of islalmic knowledge is standing in high peak but it is very sad to say that he blossom and result of this development doesn’t seen in muslim community and its each every individual . Even though there are more Islamic institutions than early periods the proper consideration and attention towards Islamic ideology and education is very low in action. We have discussed about the madrassa system and its emergence and development in kerala and maktab and authupalli system as well as dars system these old system and method of Islamic education had did more contribution in the field of Islamic education and its preaching. . But in this very day of revolution information and technology the new models of Islamic education couldn’t play a significant role in propagation of Islamic knowledge even it has more modern devise than the past. Eventually without any doubt we can say that new models of Islamic education are the best method for propagating Islamic knowledge if it works properly.
