  1. Rhode Island By Isaiah

  2. University • The University of Rhode Island, commonly abbreviated as URI, is the principal public research university in the U.S. state of Rhode Island, with its main campus in Kingston area of South Kingstown, and three other campuses located throughout the state, including Providence's Feinstein Campus, the Narragansett Bay Campus in Narragansett, and the W. Alton Jones Campus in West Greenwich. URI has 14,546 undergraduates and 4,549 graduate students

  3. State Song • arranged by Kathryn Chester • I’ve been to every state we have, and I think I’m inclined to say that Rhody stole my heart: You can keep the forty-nine. Herring gulls that dot the sky, blue waves that paint the rocks, water rich with Neptune’s life, the boats that line the docks. I see the lighthouse flickering to help the sailors see. There’s a place for everyone: Rhode Island’s It for Me. Rhode Island, oh Rhode Island surrounded by the sea. Some people roam the earth for home; Rhode Island’s It for Me. I love the fresh October days, the buzz on College Hill, art that moves an eye to tear, a jewelers special skill. Icicles refract the sun, snow falling gracefully.

  4. Rhode Island nickname • Rhode Island's official nickname is "The Ocean State," a reference to the state's geography, since Rhode Island has several large bays and inlets that amount to about 30% of its total area. Its land area is 1,045 square miles (2706 km2), but its total area is significantly larger (in the United States, all seawater and ocean floors that are less than 12 nautical miles from land belong to the Federal Government).

  5. State Flag • The Flag of State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations is white and consists of a gold anchor in the center (a symbol for hope) surrounded by thirteen gold stars (for the original 13 colonies and Rhode Island's status as the 13th state to ratify the Constitution). A blue ribbon below the anchor bears the state's motto in gold: "HOPE." The flag is frequently depicted with golden fringe around the edges of the flag.

  6. State Governor • Information About Your State's Governor • without comments • Donald Carcieri • Rhode Island’s Governor Donald Carcieri was active in sports in school leading to a scholarship at Brown University. There he earned his degree in International Relations. After teaching high school math, he moved to Jamaica. A couple years alter he returned to Rhode Island and took a job at Cookson Group where he would become the CEO of Cookson America.

  9. Major Industries and Export • . For a while, Rhode Island was one of the leaders in textiles. However, with the Great Depression, most textile factories relocated to southern US states. The textile industry still constitutes a part of the Rhode Island economy, but does not have the same power that it once had. • Other important industries in Rhode Island's past included toolmaking, costume jewelry and silverware. An interesting by-product of Rhode Island's industrial history is the amount of abandoned factories - many of them now being used for low-income housing, elderly housing, condominiums, museums, and offices. • headquarters of Citizens Financial Group, the 14th largest bank in the United States, is located in Providence.[61] The Fortune 500 companies CVS Caremark and Textron are based in Woonsocket and Providence, respectively. FM Global, GTECH Corporation, Hasbro, American Power Conversion, Nortek, and Amica Mutual Insurance are all Fortune 1000 companies that are based in Rhode Island
