  2. Mood • A state or quality of feeling at a particular time. • Example : On a rainy day my brother felt blue.

  3. Fact • Something that can be proven wrong or right. • Example: My friend’s hair is brown.

  4. opinion • A belief or judgment • Example: You smell funny!

  5. symbolism • Using a symbol or a picture representing something Example: <3 is a heart.

  6. Paired selections • Two stories which are read separately and then analyzed for likenesses and differences in content, theme or issues Example:“Ok kids on your test there will be a set of paired selections.”

  7. plot • The action or events in a story • Example:

  8. Tone • The attitude of the author toward the subject, the characters or the audience. • Example: Jerry is acting shy in the classroom.

  9. Inform • To use writing to provide factual information about a topic. • Example : This passage informed me about the damage of blizzards.

  10. summarize • to convey the main idea and a few details from a selection in a shortened form • Example : The summarized info about lollipops is very entertaining

  11. Climax • the high point or turning point in a story.

  12. Express • to use writing to state an author's ideas or feelings

  13. Author’s purpose • the reason the author wrote the story
