  1. Clones Genes, cells or whole organisms that carry identical genetic material because they are derived from the same original DNA.

  4. Micropropagation by tissue culture • Remove small section of the shoot tip of the plant to be cloned. This small section is called the explant • Place the explant on nutrient agar • On the agar the cells divide to form a mass on undifferentiated cells called a callus • The callus can be subculturedonto more agar plates • Plant hormones are added to make the callus develop shoots • After a few weeks different hormones are added to cause root growth • The plantlets are then transferred to soil in a greenhouse and slowly acclimatised
