  2. TIMELINE of 1914 Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife are assassinated by a Serbian Nationalist in Sarejevo. Russia invades East Prussia. Turkey enters the war on the side of the Central Powers. Aug. 1 Sep. Jun. 28 Aug. 1 Aug. Sep. Oct. 29 Dec. 25 Official outbreak of World War I. Germany declares war on Russia. An unofficial Christmas truce is declared by soldiers along the Western Front. Battle of Lemberg begins.

  4. Timeline of 1915 British forces use gas in battle near Loos, but shifting winds cause 60,000 British casualties. First German zeppelin air raid on England. Britain announces a blockade of all German ports. Aug. 1 Sep. Jan. 19 Feb. 4 Mar. 11 Aug. 30 Oct. 29 Oct. Germany declares a submarine blockade of Great Britain. Any ship coming to England is a target. Responding to American demands, Germany stops sinking ships without warning. Austro-German-Bulgarian forces invade Serbia, expelling the Serbian army from the country

Feb. 21 May 31 Jun. 1 Jul. 1 Sep. 15 Nov. 7 Woodrow Wilson is re-elected in the USA with a campaign slogan of "He kept us out of the war". Start of the Battle of the Somme, with the British military suffering its greatest number of casualties in a single day, 60,000. Battle of Jutland begins between British and German naval forces.

Apr. 6 Jun. 15 Jun. 27 Feb. 3 Nov. 20 Dec. 7 United States comes out of neutrality and declares war on Germany, thus entering WWI. The United States declares war on Austro-Hungary.. Greece enters the war on the side of the Allies.
