  1. Samson, The Strongest Weak Man In The Bible Judges 13-16

  2. Hope for Us All • Honesty of Biblical writers. • Whether it’s Abraham, Moses, Paul or Peter. • Only Jesus is Perfect. • God loves and uses humans in His service.

  3. First, Look At His Parents • They shared this event together. Judges 13:6, 8, 10-12, etc. Luke 1:6 – they “both” • They prayed – v. 8 Jer. 10:25 • They wanted to raise Samson according to God’s Will. V. 8, 12 Active, not passive. • They suffered broken hearts. Prov. 17:25; 10:1 • “Good” parents can raise “troublesome” children.

  4. Samson’s Mistakes/Sins • He was willful, obstinate. 14:1-4. “Strong heads are not head-strong.” • He rejected wise counsel. Like Rehoboam – I Kings 12:13-20. • Evil associations – women especially, 16:1; 4-20. Prov. 1:10-15; I Cor. 5:6 • He “yielded” too often. 14:17 – the riddle. 16:16f – secret of strength. Sin starts out “exciting” and ends up “ugly”.

  5. He courted temptation – All this trouble was in the land of the Philistines. “Lead us not into temptation” (Matt. 6:13). 1 Thess. 5:22; 2 Tim. 2:22 • He yielded to fornication. 16:1 • He broke his Nazarite vow. We need a “power room”.

  6. The Cost of Sin • Sin cost him his sight – 16:21. I John 2:9-11. • Sin cost him his freedom – Sin enslaves. Prov. 5:22; Rom. 6:16-20. • Sin cost him his strength – I Cor. 11:30. Sin weakens – spiritually, emotionally, etc. • Sin cost him his family and friends. Prison isolates us from contact.

  7. Sin cost him his self respect – 16:25. • Sin cost him his life – v. 30. Rom. 6:23
