Jeff Buck & Brenda Clevenger • Council on Teacher Education • Oversee Teacher Education programs • Provide Information pertaining to Certification • Past-Criminal Background checks, BBP training, etc. • Do not delay obtaining your teaching certificate • Should obtain certification immediately. Even if grad school, Peace Corp, etc. • Not protected at all against ISBE changes. Example: C or better rule effective Mar 2012.

  3. Completing the entitlement request form • Non-citizen (ask and if any-distribute form) • Citizen • (Instructions and forms are also in student portal) • Read purple instruction sheet • Keep as reference later-Fill out completely • Fill out Entitlement request form • If it’s there, it’s necessary

  4. Name • Must use name that appears on Banner • Name changes? • Change Name in Banner • Contact us. • Mailing address • Most permanent address you have • Email address. Important!!!! • Can use any email account you want – including University of Illinois account • Print legibly • Check regularly • Keep account from filling up and having email bounce

  5. Non Citizens • Read Instructions carefully • Call us if you need assistance • Save Instruction sheet for reference later.

  6. Endorsement Request Form (see attachment) • Explain what endorsements are (grade and subject) • Will be endorsed for Visual Arts (K-12) by virtue of program • Additional (other) endorsements can be acquired by completing respective requirements • High School (9-12) • Middle Grade (5-8)-Must have middle grade courses to receive any (except visual art) • Elementary (K-4) • Check any endorsements on form you wish to be considered for. • If you receive other endorsements, you’ll get an email. If not, you won’t. • Contact us if it’s incorrect or incomplete.

May also access directions, app, and endorsement form on your Student Portal • Make photocopy of application before turning in. • Turn in application • May grads may turn in Now. • August grads should turn in in May. • You may turn in application before passing all tests. • Citizens • After turning in App, go to www.isbe.net/ecs • Create (ECS) account (Step 2 on instruction form) • Stop! Go no further (for now) • Technical Problems? Contact ISBE. Not us.

  8. We conduct audit using: • DARS report • Grad audit (if grad student) Problems? Will contact Records Officer. Or you. • No problems? Will place your application in our “Pending” files until we have everything we need, which is: • Teacher Education Safety training completed (go to student portal or to www.cote.illinois.edu • Student Teaching Time report • Be accurate and thorough (only record of Student Teaching history)

Appropriate Test scores • Approved Portfolio • Letter of Recommendation • Sent by Robin Douglas if you’ve met all requirements • Grades • Degree • After we’ve verified everything is complete • Citizens • Will be notified by email you provided. • Claim your certificate online (www.isbe.net/ecs) (Step 4) • Claim certificate immediately. Proposed fee increases may cost you more $$$

Register your certificate at a Regional Office of Education • ISBE will send you paper copy of Certificate in mail • Any school district with your SSN can verify certification • Non Citizens • We will sign and stamp application • We will mail it back to you with instructions and Notice of Intent form • You’ll need to: • Present documents to ROE • Present proof of legal immigration status • Pay fees • Early release. • Find out precisely what school district requires • Must have received all required test scores.

Contact us. • Testing • Required tests: (see handout) • Content test in “Visual Arts” • Assessment of Professional Teaching: Grades K-12 • Some additional endorsements require content • If not yet passed, indicate when you are taking tests on endorsement request form. • Make sure your SSN is reported correctly • Send your test scores to Illinois

Keep your original tests scores indefinitely (we cannot provide copies) • Certification facts/figures/goodies • Receive an initial certificate • Must renew every 4 fiscal years (July 1st – June 30th) • Certification in other States • Based on completion of approved program and certification in Illinois • Contact information under “resources” in our website: www.cote.illinois.edu • This is about all the information we have on out of state certification. • May have form for COTE to fill out – Send to us!
