Marijuana Legalization in Colorado • Nov. 2000 – Allowed the use of medical marijuana by patients with “chronic debilitating medical conditions” • Oct. 2009 – US Attorney General ceded jurisdiction of marijuana law enforcement to state governments • Combination of permissive local law and federal policy change liberalized the sale and use of medical marijuana • Nov. 2012 – Amendment 64 legalized the retail sale, purchase, and possession of marijuana for state residents and visitors over 21 • Jan. 2014 – Retail marijuana stores began sales to consumers
