  1. Create Human Space Civilization and Build National Science and Technology Monument Exploring and Practicing the Development Road of Space Science and Technology with Chinese Characteristics Zhang Jianheng China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC)

  2. Peaceful use of the outer space is a permanent theme of the progress of human civilization. • II. Carrying China forward from a big space country to a space power is an unshirkable mission responsibility of CASC.

  3. “Space can help us to solve many problems that can not be solved on Earth, or even change the human understanding of things fundamentally.”—Alvin Toffler foretold the Fourth Wave

  4. Relying on its unique advantages, space science and technology influences and changes the survival and development of human society…

  5. Facing the frequently occurring natural disasters in the world such as earthquake, typhoon, flood, mud-rock flow, forest fire, tsunami and volcano eruption……What can space technology do?

  6. Huge Earthquake in Wenchuan, Earthquake/Tsunami in Indian Ocean Multiple remote sensing satellites immediately made observation for the affected area in Wenchuan to determine the damage caused by the earthquake. Tsunami in Indian Ocean lashed at the coast of Sri Lanka.

  7. Huge Typhoons and Hurricanes in Recent Years Typhoon Megi in Taiwan in Oct. 2010 Hurricane Katrina in the US in August 2005 “Just because we have the GEO meteorological satellites, we have not failed to forecast any typhoon and its landfall location and time, rescuing the lives of thousands upon thousands of people. This is the tremendous contribution of space technology.” ——A Meteorological Administrator

  8. In order to improve the increasingly worse survival environment such as greenhouse effect, environment pollution and land desertification……What can space technology do?

  9. Ozone hole at South Pole is increasingly expanding. With the increase of CO2 emission, an ozone hole occurs at South Pole with an increasingly expanding area. Following are the maps of ozone layer at South Pole based on the satellite remote sensing images, and the deep color part is the ozone hole. 2004年 2006年 2009年 The area of the ozone hole expanded significantly from 2004 to 2009. The color picture is the latest satellite image on Oct. 20, 2009 with the ozone hole area (blue) reaching a new record of 10.6 million square mile.

  10. Tackle Global Climate Change by Developing Space Technology In 2009, NASA launched Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO) to collect the accurate data on greenhouse gas in the atmosphere for determining the source, absorption and dissipating locations. In 2010, Obama Administration approved to appropriate 2.4 billion dollars to NASA in the coming 5 years specifically for developing and launching this kind of satellites for further research on global climate change.

  11. In order to meet higher demand of people for social development and life quality, digital Earth, smart city and direct broadcast TV……What can space technology bring ?

  12. Satellite broadcast & TV enriches our cultural life High-definition TV direct broadcast, digital audio broadcast, satellite network……Satellite broadcast & TV communications service is providing people with real-time and richer cultural programs to meet the individualized needs.

  13. Satellite direct broadcast can make people all over the world watch the sport events instantly. During 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, over 10 broadcast & TV communications satellites of the global satellite operators provided global direct broadcast to make the people all over the world enjoy the magic of the football instantly.

  14. Satellite navigation technology is changing our traveling way. With rapid increase in automobiles, expanded personal activity radius and increasingly complicated road situation, satellite navigation service has become an indispensable necessity in people’s life. The use of satellite navigation, timing and positioning technology is only limited by people’s imagination.

  15. By the end of 2011, there were nearly 1000 satellites operating in orbit to provide various kinds of services, of which nearly a half were commercial satellites, and the in-orbit commercial communications satellites accounted for about 40% of the total satellites owing to the increasing demands for satellite direct broadcast and satellite Internet.

  16. While promoting the progress of the human social civilization, space science and technology has also resulted in huge economic and social benefits……

  17. New motive force for economic growth Annual growth of 12.2% 不到1500亿 Under the financial crisis background, space industry reached a total scale of 289.8 billion dollars with steadily increasing for consecutive 6 years.
