We have always been able to count on an expanding labor force…but as the boomers are replaced by a smaller generation, the number of workers between the prime working ages of 25 and 54 will stagnate! During the past 20 years, the share of the workforce that has attended tertiary studies grew from just over 40% to almost 60%. That figure will barely budge during the next two decades. Baby Boomers: 1946 – 1961 Flower Power, Prolonged Good Times Currently By 2020 • 46-61 years old • Make up 43% of Workforce • Highly traditional strong work ethic and loyalty ties - Job • Make up most of Middle & Upper Management • IT a learned language, for some • Over 60 years old • Phasing down work commitment, but not retiring in the traditional sense • Potentially continuing to dominate executive and board ranks

Generation X: 1961 – 1981 The ‘Glorious’ 80s Currently By 2020 • 24-44 years old • Make up less of workforce than Baby Boomers • Loyal to profession.. not company • Expect to change jobs for career advancement • Motivated by “What is in it for me?” • Early adopters and IT literate • Over 39-59 years old • Moving into senior management ranks • Inclusive management styles • Challenged in managing multi-generational workforce

Generation Y: 1981 – 1997 The Dot Com Era Currently By 2020 • Under 25 years old • Entrepreneurial aspirations • Expect success • 78% say Work / Life Balance a priority • Telecommuting – work is time driven, but no longer time bound • IT fluent and native speakers • 23-39 years old • Entrepreneurial focus • Self managed careers and lifestyles • Some ‘let down’ as working life fails to meet high expectations
