  2. Original recipe • .625 cup (.625 stick) Crisco Shortening • 1.041 cups firmly packed light brown sugar • 1.66 tbsp. milk • .833 tbsp. vanilla • .833 egg • 1.458 cups all-purpose flour • .833 tsp. salt • .625 tpsn. baking soda • .833 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  3. Recipe Directions Heat oven to 375°F. Place sheets of foil on countertop for cooling cookies. Combine Crisco, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat egg into creamed mixture. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix into creamed mixture just until blended. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop rounded tablespoonfulsof dough 3 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake one baking sheet at a time at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes for chewy cookies, or 11 to 13 minutes for crisp. DO NOT OVERBAKE. Cool for 3 minutes on baking sheet. Remove cookies to foil to cool completely.

  5. Chemical change • The heat from the oven causes the properties of the cookies to change • When the cookies bake, the color changes to golden-brown and the chocolate chips are still visible after they’ve been mixed with the batter.
