Monocytes • A type of white blood cell • A function of this cell is to replenish resident macrophages and dendritic cells • Another function is to respond to inflammation signals by moving quickly to sites of infection, and differentiating into macrophages and dendritic cells • Mostly stored in spleen • These cells have a more prominent appearance of internal vesicles, used for processing foreign material • Also have a large, smooth nucleus • A large amount of cytoplasm to carry out dividing into macrophages and dendritic cells
