What is Health? • Health is a combination of physical, mental/emotional, and social well being • All three aspects combine to make your total health • The choices that you make and actions you take every day shape your health • All three sides of health are sometimes pictured as a triangle • Each aspect represents a part of Total Health

  5. Physical Health • How can I improve my Physical Health? • Eat nutritious meals and snacks • Receive regular checkups from a doctor and dentist • Avoid Harmful Behaviors • These include alcohol, tobacco and other drugs

  6. Mental and Emotional Health • Your mental/emotional health involves how you handle your feelings, thoughts and the situations you face each day. • You can improve you emotional/mental health by expressing yourself in a healthy way • Includes sharing your thoughts and feelings • Having a positive attitude

  7. Social Health • Good social health includes supporting the people you care about • The ability to keep and maintain friends is another mark of good social health • When you have good relationships with others, you feel cared for and respected.

  8. Achieving A healthy Balance • Three sides of the Health Triangle are connected • When one side changes the other two sides are affected • When your health is in balance, you are more likely to have a high level of wellness • Wellness is a state of well-being or total health
