  3. This Session’s Goals: • Participants will understand the SAMR model as a reflective teacher tool designed to raise student engagement in the classroom. • Participants will walk away with resources to support curriculum transformation.

  4. Research Based Support for Today’s Session: From the Introduction of the English Language Arts CCRS: • To be ready for college, workforce training, and life in a technological society, students need the ability to gather, comprehend, evaluate, synthesize, and report on information and ideas, to conduct original research in order to answer questions or solve problems, and to analyze and create a high volume and extensive range of print and nonprint texts in media forms old and new. The need to conduct research and to produce and consume media is embedded into every aspect of today’s curriculum. In like fashion, research and media skills and understandings are embedded throughout the Standards rather than treated in a separate section. Ruben Puentedura: • Over 25 years experience in K-12+ classrooms transforming his research on informative technologies into useful applications in the classroom. • Creator of SAMR, the four-level approach to selecting, using, and evaluating technology in education--a model used by Apple and educational institutions, worldwide.

  5. Flip out! With a partner, please complete the TED Ed Flip @ http://ed.ted.com/on/lZVQCyeW (You will need to create an account to complete the flip.)

  6. f The SAMR Model, designed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura, is a reflective tool that allows teachers to evaluate how technology enhances or transforms the learning experience. • Is it substitution of a practice already occurring WITHOUT technology?   • Does it augment the practice with additional features?  • Does it modify the task in different and exciting ways? • Or does this technology completely redefine the task?
