AGENDA • 6:00-6:10pm presentation in classrooms • Students and their parents should visit the various AP classes they may be interested in. • Welcome and directions for the evening will take place in Session one over the intercom • Overview of the AP Program at Northview by Tiffany Butera, Curriculum Director

  3. AGENDA 6:10-7:35 p.m. • Students and their parents should visit the various AP classes they may be interested in. • Presentations will be made every 10 minutes with 5 minutes travel time between sessions. • You should be able to visit up to 6 AP presentations this evening. • If you would like information about a class that you did not have an opportunity to see, please contact the subject area teacher in the next few days.

  4. AGENDA • If a class fills up for that session, you will need to attend another session later in the evening. Signs will be posted if a room is filled to capacity. • Certain subject sessions will only be presented a few times so please check the presentation schedule carefully so that you do not miss out. • Some subjects have more than one teacher listed. Both rooms will be giving out identical information so choose the room with more seating.

If we do not start at 6:00 due to unforeseen circumstances, we will adjust the times accordingly. You will be released over the public address system.

Advanced Placement (AP)Description • Program of college courses and exams for secondary school students which have been administered nationally since 1955 by the College Board • AP courses make it possible for academically talented high school students to upgrade the quality and increase the challenge of their studies • Essentially, AP courses allow students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school.

Advanced Placement (AP)The Exam • AP Exams are administered in May (scored between 1 – 5) • Many colleges give advanced standing and/or credit. • Students earning a 3 or higher usually earn college credit or exemptions from required classes. • To investigate a college’s AP Policy, visit www.collegeboard.com/ap/creditpolicy • Examination fees for the exam(s) are usually funded by the state. • All students are required to take the test if state funding is provided.

  9. Advanced Placement (AP)Courses offered at NHS • See course descriptions and prerequisites on Northview’s website:www.northviewhigh.com • Students must complete an AP Commitment Contract (available tonight from each AP teacher).

Advanced Placement (AP)Courses offered at NHS • Students must understand the following: • The fee for the AP exam MAY OR MAY NOT be funded by the state or county. • AP courses require in-depth study and a willingness to go beyond usual class requirements and preparation (including summer reading). The student must be willing to invest the time and effort. • The student is making a commitment, and if the student is accepted into an AP class, he/she WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DROP THE CLASS.

Advanced Placement (AP)Courses offered at NHS • Students must understand the following: • Students with low first semester grades may not be eligible to drop the course at the end of the semester due to seat availability. • Students with a second semester unweighted final grade that falls below the prerequisite grade for this course will be removed prior to the fall 2013 semester.

  12. AP Commitment Forms • ALL AP Commitment Forms are due back to the AP Teacher on Thursday, January 31st for a student to be eligible for the course. • Students who do not have the pre-requisite grade for the AP course with their Fall (Sem 1) grades, must still turn in the AP Commitment Form by the January 31st due date in order to be eligible to submit a wavier during the 4/18/13 to4/26/13 time frame • Failure to turn in an AP Commitment Form by the January 31st deadline will make the student ineligible for enrollment in the AP class with our without a wavier.
